Leaving many souls behind to mourn the loss of India's most cherished actress, Sridevi breathed her last on February 24 in Dubai. The veteran Diva's soul left her body at a relatively young age of 54, leaving her closed ones shocked and saddened.

The unprecedented delay in bringing Sridevi's mortal remains back to Mumbai has disheartened her admirers and family members who are waiting to pay farewell to the diva. Even after handing over the death certificate of the late actress to her family, Dubai Police refuses to release her body.

Apparently, "another clearance" is awaited by Dubai Police before Sridevi's mortal remains are repatriated, Dubai Police told Indian Embassy. India's envoy to the United Arab Emirates Navdeep Suri confirmed that the procedure might take 2-3 more days.

"We are working with local authorities to ensure that mortal remains can be sent to India at the earliest. We are on the job. Our experience in similar cases tells us that it does take 2-3 days to complete processes," he tweeted.

The forensic report released on Monday confirmed that the 54-year-old actress died of accidental drowning. Sridevi was found unconscious in the bathtub of the hotel room by her husband Boney Kapoor, who rushed his wife to Rashid Hospital, where the authorities declared the actress dead.

As per a Khaleej Times report, some traces of alcohol were found in Sridevi's blood, due to which she lost balance in the bathroom and fell unconscious. Post losing her consciousness, the actress drowned in the bathtub and dies before the medical team could revive her.

Dismissing the earlier speculations that the actress succumbed to Cardiac arrest, none of such detail is mentioned in the death certificate issued to her family, a copy of which was obtained by the Gulf News. The letter describes drowning as the only cause of death and no other reason is mentioned.

Since Boney Kapoor was the only person present with Sridevi during her time of death, Dubai Police interrogated him after handing over the forensic report to her family and reported his statement. Call details of the actress have also been scrutinised by local authorities as well.

Sridevi has garnered millions of fans over the years who loved the actress unconditionally. Her grief-stricken followers have been gathered outside her Lokhandwala residence in Mumbai to catch the last glimpse of their Chandani but many were left disheartened upon knowing that her arrival has been delayed by few hours.

The abrupt death of veteran actress without the history of any specific ailment raised red flags for the Dubai authorities which held her back for the post-mortem before transporting her body back to India for the final rites.

Khaleej Times confirmed that after receiving the Police Clearance and forensic report, the other procedures including, immigration and embalming, Sridevi's mortal remains will be ready for repatriation and will arrive back in India soon.

While many celebrities including her step-son Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra, Rekha, Rani Mukerji, Shabana Azmi were gathered at Anil Kapoor’s residence on February 25, 2018, for paying their respect to the late actress, many renowned faces are expected to arrive for her last rites.

Sridevi has started her career with South Indian cinema and created a niche for herself there before establishing herself in Bollywood. While Rajinikanth has already arrived in Mumbai for her final rites, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh are expected to attend her funeral.

The 54-year-old actress was in Dubai to attend the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah along with the entire Kapoor family. After attending the festivities, the other relatives including Boney Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor (her elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor missed the event due to her debut film's shooting) returned back to Mumbai but Sridevi stayed back for some shopping.

Reportedly, Boney Kapoor flew back to Dubai to surprise his wife and invited her for dinner after a 15-minute conversation. Later, she entered the washroom to freshen up but never came back. She was discovered unconscious lying in a bathtub by her husband.

Reports suggest that "Boney tried to revive her and when he could not, he called a friend of his. After that, he informed the police at 9 pm." Businessman Anil Ambani has reportedly sent his private jet to retrieve Sridevi's mortal remains from Dubai.
