Actor Prakash Raj announced that he will take the political plunge in 2019.In his New Years wish to his followers on Twitter, he said that he will be contesting the Lok Sabha polls as an independent candidate and said he will announce his constituency subsequently.

The actor in the past had supported the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of K. Chandrashekar Rao, who is busy in putting together, what he calls, a “People’s Front”, which is anti-BJP and anti-Congress.
Prakash Raj has been open in his political views and is known for his anti-BJP stance. In November, he had posted a tweet referring to Modi, "Dear Supreme Leader... before giving Gyan on foul language to other parties... will you and your party begin Swachh Bharat first from your own motor mouths?"
He had earlier said that the kind of Hindutva that is propagated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot work in India.
Prakash is a known name in the southern film industry. He has featured in movies like "Iruvar", "Anthapuram" and "Kanchivaram". He has also made his presence felt in Bollywood with movies like "Singham" and "Wanted".
The actor is the latest celebrity to join politics from the south after veterans Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
