More Than 50,000 People Join The Fight To Ban Controversial TV Show 'Pehredaar Piya Ki'

Shows on social evils have always received mixed views from the viewers with majority supporting the concerned shows. Although, this time, the case is quite the opposite. Sony's latest venture 'Pehredaar Piya Ki' has majorly been bashed by viewers all around the country due to its regressive concept.

An online petition against the show was filed shortly after it first went on-air on change.org. The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Smriti Irani has been urged to ban the show by more than 50,000 people who have already signed the petition.

Viewers are disgusted by the concept of embellishing child marriage through the show. 'Pehredaar Piya Ki' showcases a 10-year-old boy marrying a girl twice his age. The makers of the show call it the idea of presenting a special bond between the two.

The suhagarat sequence of the show has made audience more perplexed about the show. They now find the show cringe-worthy and want it to go off-air as soon as possible.

“Pehredar piya ki. – A 10 year old impressionable little kid (”piyaa”) caressing and stalking a lady who’s more than double his age and filling sindoor in her “maang” is being telecasted at prime time -8:30pm on sony. (Family time) It is to be devoured by the entire Nation. Imagine the kind of influence it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers mindset. We want a ban on the serial. We do not want our kids to be influenced by such tv serials. Join us in signing the petition to ban this serial,” was the exact petition as filed by one of the angry viewers, Mansi Jain.
