The recently concluded IIFA Awards 2017 that took place in New York saw a light-hearted return on the debate of nepotism in the film industry which was alleged by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut on filmmaker Karan Johar's talk show Koffee with Karan.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, co-host of the IIFA awards alongside Karan Johar, when presenting the award for Best Actor In A Comic Role to Varun Dhawan for Dishoom, said to Varun, "You are here because of your papa," referring to director David Dhawan.

Varun Dhawan took the comment in his stride and responded, "And you're here because of your mummy," as Saif is the son of famous veteran actress Sharmila Tagore.

Karan Johar chimed in with "I am here because of my Papa," and the trio said in unision, "Nepotism rocks!"

Varun then continued, "There was a song in your film... 'Bole choodiyan, bole kangana."

To which Karan replied, "Kangana naa hi bole toh achha hai... Kangana bahut bolti hai. (It's better Kangana doesn't say anything, she talks a lot."

In February, Kangana had called Karan a 'flag bearer of nepotism' and 'intolerant' towards outsiders on his own chat show, and the discussion spiralled out of proportion, with Karan accusing Kangana of seeking popularity.

Although the nepotism debate was mentioned in a lighter vein, it sparked the wrath of Twitterati.
