Post receiving a brilliant response for the first season of 'Big Little Lies' starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, HBO has brought a well-known face for the upcoming season of their widely-loved drama on board. The latest entrant is none other than the talented Meryl Streep.

The three-time Oscar winner will reportedly play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Perry Wright portrayed by Alexander Skarsgård, who has died during the opening season. Streep will supposedly arrive in Monterey worrying about her grandchildren and search for some answers.

The Emmy-winning drama based on the Liane Moriarty's novel is presented by David E. Kelley. Notably, the writer-producer has expressed his desire to cast Meryl and Tom Hank in the 'Big Little Lies', a dream which has partially come true with the entry of Streep in the show.

While Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will once again executive produce the drama in addition to starring in the show, Streep's entry can cut the paychecks of the rest of star cast. Variety's sources claim the fresh Oscar nominee will earn $800,000 per episode.

Meryl recently received an Oscar nomination, her 21st to be exact, for her role in Steven Spielberg's 'The Post'. Earlier, she has won 3 Oscars for 'The Iron Lady', 'Sophie's Choice', and 'Kramer vs. Kramer' respectively. With her latest nomination, the actress has become the only living legend to achieve the feat.

The season 2 of 'Big Little Lies' will reportedly be partially based on Liane Moriarty's new novel whereas all the seven episodes will be helmed by Andrea Arnold. The season 1, which premiered in early 2017 won eight Primetime Emmy Awards at the 69th annual ceremony in September last year.
