The Greek-god of Bollywood Hrithik Roshan may soon be playing the role of Hindu god Lord Shiva in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film adaptation of 'Immortals of Meluha' the first book of Amish Tripathi's Shiva trilogy.

Initially, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions had acquired the rights to make a film adaptation of Immortals of Meluha, tentatively titled as 'Shuddhi'. After several stars reportedly walked in and out of the movie, such as Salman Khan, Varun Dhawan, Tiger Shroff and Alia Bhatt, the project was shelved and the contract for rights to the film adaptation expired.

According to reports, the rights for the movie have now gone to SLB films and Hrithik Roshan is being zeroed in as being an ideal candidate for the leading role. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Hrithik have previously worked together in 'Guzaarish' which was released in 2010. Guzaarish was based on the sensitive topic of euthanasia and depicted Hrithik as a disabled former magician.

The Immortals of Meluha is followed by 'The Secret of the Nagas' and 'The Oath of the Vayuputras'. The entire trilogy received massive success on its publication. The books are based on a fictionalised version of the origins of Lord Shiva and how he came to rule over Meluha and marry Parvati.
