Ever since coming into the public eye, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus film 'Padmavati' has been creating waves. Amidst the allegations of false facts depiction and a number of protests going on against the film's release, the actors have maintained their silence.

It was only recently that actor Shahid Kapoor requested the people to give the film a “chance” before judging it and now the leading lady of the film, Deepika Padukone has also opened up about her stand. While talking to IANS, the actress expressed that film will release, successfully winning over all the controversies.

Deepika plays the titular role of the Chittor’s queen ‘Rani Padmavati’ in Bhansali's tribute to to the Rajput queen. The 31-year-old actress said, “As a woman, I feel proud to be a part of this film, and to tell this story, which needs to be told. And it needs to be told now.”

While politicians, religious organisations and royal authorities are alleging the celebrated filmmaker of 'distorting history' and are protesting against the film’s release, the actress is convinced that nothing can stop the release of ‘Padmavati’ on December 1.

Talking about the uproar spreading against the historic drama, Padukone said, “It's appalling, it's absolutely appalling. What have we gotten ourselves into? And where have we reached as a nation? We have regressed.” The entire Bollywood has extended support to the film because “this is not about ‘Padmavati’... We're fighting a much bigger battle,” says Deepika.

Supreme Court recently dismissed a petition demanding a stand on the film’s release, justifying that the matter doesn’t fall under their jurisdiction. Re-interating the same, the ‘Om Shanti Om’ actress said, “The only people we are answerable to is the censor board, and I know and I believe that nothing can stop the release of this film.”

‘Padmavati’ marks Deepika’s hattrick with the legendary director Sanjay Leela Bhansali after the romantic crime drama 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela' and historical drama 'Bajirao Mastani'. All the three of her characters despite being so similar, had something new and refreshing about it.

“They are very independent individuals and very strong characters,” Deepika said. She also feels extremely proud of working with two men like Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in one film. Remembering her debut from a decade back, Deepika shared some of her interesting thoughts.

“When I debuted, 'Saawariya' (directed by Bhansali) and 'Om Shanti Om' had released on the same day. I remember back then, there was this whole thing about the films clashing, this debut versus that debut. But I was so naive and so new that none of that made any sense to me at that point. The only thought I remember thinking to myself then was, 'Oh! How come he didn't cast me in his movie?’,” she said.

The entire experience with ‘Padmavati’ has been exhausting for both Deepika and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Reminiscing the days, she concluded, “I also need to heal emotionally, mentally and physically from this experience. I think he and I both need to heal from this experience before we collaborate again.”

‘Padmavati’ revolves around the story of queen Padmini of Chittore, her husband Rawal Ratan Singh and the adversities they face while fighting the tyrant ruler Alauddin Khilji. The film is slated to hit the theatres on December 1.
