Largely known for her role Archana in the famous soap opera 'Pavitra Rishta' Ankita Lokhande has now taken on another project. While having already rocked the small screen, Ankita is now aiming for the big picture.

Ankita Lokhande has signed a big budget movie 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi' with Kangna Ranaut in the lead.

In the film, Ankita will be playing a key supporting role as Jhalkarbai. Historically, she had gone out of her way to save Rani Laxmi Bai time and time again endangering her own.

Jhalkaribai was born a Dalit woman in the Kori family who later rose to become a soldier in Rani Laxmi Bai's women army. She played an important role in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Taking advantage of the striking resemblance between the two, Jhalkarbai disguised herself as the queen of Jhansi when their fort was overtaken by the Britishers. She took charge of the army and marched on the Britishers with full force providing time for the real queen to escape.

Ankita admitted she had never heard of Jhalkarbai before but agreed to play her role anyway. She said she was excited to play such a powerful role as well as share screen with Kangana Ranaut. She also expressed how excited she was about this project and told she has already started training for sword fighting and horse riding with Nick Powell.

This movie is written by Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and will be directed by Krish, who last directed the movie 'Gabbar Is Back'. Also, Shankar Ehsaan Loy will be giving the melody to Prasoon Joshi's words making the movie much more delightful to watch. The movie is set to release on April 27 next year.
