National Award winner Suresh Oberoi had initially been interested in some other character of the movie, but the director Krish is credited with convincing him to play the role of Bajirao, as he believed that Suresh's style and manner would suit the character of the Peshwa. Suresh even agreed to shave his head for the role!

Revealing the reasons behind his sabbatical from the film industry, Suresh said that he wanted to slow down and support son Vivek's ventures. He added that he enjoyed his time spent in social work and with his grandchildren, but is open to work if the script is good.

The film Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi stars Kangana in the title role and is scheduled for an April 2018 release.
