GST In Class 10th, UP Board Amends Curriculum

In an effort to spread awareness and educate the next generation on the new Goods and Service Tax, the UP Board has decided to include it in the class 10th syllabus of UP Board.

The new syllabus has been finalized for implementation beginning from the current academic session. Now the students across UP, studying in UP Board affiliated schools will have to study the new taxing system of the country.

As part of the newly updated syllabus released on May 5, the UP Board has included GST as a separate topic of study in social science for Class 10.

A proposal is also pending under the course committee to add GST as a separate subject of study in the class 12th syllabus. If a consensus is reached, GST will be added in the commerce stream syllabus of UP Board.

Pradeep Tripathi, the principal of Madhav Gyan Kendra Intermediate College in Naini says, “The new curriculum has been notified by the UP Board and GST has been made part of it. This is a welcome move as GST is now in effect and knowledge of it is important for the students. This inclusion will introduce the Hindi heartland state's students to the latest tax early. With GST set to be included in college/varsity level as well, early knowledge is will make students comfortable with this new tax system governing their lives.”

The UP Board, in their 2017-18 sessions, has also added lessons in banking from Class 9 in order to impart knowledge of banking and financial world to the students. These amendments in the syllabus are some of the many amendments made in the syllabus this session. The new amended curriculum has also brought changes in other subjects like Hindi, home science, science etc besides social science and moral, sports and physical education etc.
