The results of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections brought good news for the Congress party which has been facing defeat across the nation, as the Congress-linked NSUI (National Students Union of India) won the top 2 posts of President and Vice President, leaving the posts of Joint Secretary and Secretary for the BJP-linked ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad).

Rocky Tuseed of NSUI won the post of President while Kunal Sehrawat won the post of Vice President.

NSUI won the post of DUSU President for the first time since 2012, a victory which was hailed as a "major comeback" for the union, and a sign that the student fraternity has "restored their faith in the Congress and our beloved leader Rahul Gandhi".

The victory of NSUI in the DUSU elections was hailed by Congress leaders who referred to it as a sign of a revival of the party and a fading out of "Acche Din" as promised by BJP.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted, "After Rajasthan, Punjab, now NSUI's win in Delhi student polls proves that the youth have rejected Modiji's false promises of acche din."

Vice President of the Congress party said, "Congratulations NSUI on a stellar performance & Pres win in #DUSU! Thank DU students for reposing faith in Congress ideology."

In the past few years, the Delhi University Students Union elections have been dominated by ABVP with NSUI coming in second. In the last year DUSU elections, ABVP won 3 posts while NSUI was able to win only one post, that of joint secretary.

Responding to the seeming turn-around of fates of NSUI and ABVP, a member of the ABVP said, "We were in the union for four years. These are dirty tricks by the Left and NSUI. The Left put out dummy candidates to help the NSUI win."

The NSUI win at the DUSU elections comes after the disappointing results it faced at the student union elections at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, where the Left alliance won all 4 seats, defeating the ABVP while in an ignominious defeat for NSUI, more students voted for None Of The Above (NOTA) than voting for the Congress affiliate.
