Indian cricket team kit sponsors Nike were hit hard after Team India expressed their unhappiness over the practice kit provided to them, according to a report in leading daily.
The issue came into limelight after it was duly reported by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday.
The players are not happy with the 'substandard kits' provided by their official sponsors Nike and complained to the BCCI over this issue.
BCCI has decided to act over this issue strongly. A BCCI official has made it clear that they have scheduled a meeting with the Nike officials and shall try to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
"The team cannot have sub-standard kits and we will be engaging with Nike and we will put our case strongly. We have to engage with them, we will have a meeting with them (Nike) next week and try to resolve it at earliest," BCCI official quoted.
Throwing light in the past, we can see Nike has been the official supplier of Team India's kits since January 2006, after it's rivals with a deal worth an eye-watering 43 million dollars. Apart from that Nike extended its deal with the Indian Cricket team and paid 60 million dollars for the next five years.
Nike's current deal with the team last till 2020, as in 2015, they again signed a contract renewal and paid 57 million dollars to do so. Sportswear Nike has been in a long term with the Indian Team. The BCCI along with the Nike decides the jerseys of Team India.
