The experience of visiting Pakistan has always been bitter-sweet for cricket teams of other countries. In case of Sri Lanka, their last experience was mostly bitter due to the incident that happened in 2009, which also marked their last Pakistan visit until now.

On their trip to Lahore in 2009, the bus in which Sri Lankan cricket team was travelling got attacked with guns and grenades, following which the team has refrained from playing any international tournament in Pakistan.

After 8 years since the incident killed six police officers and two civilians while injuring 6 Sri Lankan players, Sri Lanka Cricket Board confirmed on Monday that they will play a Twenty20 international match in Lahore on October 29.

Following the attack, most of the touring cricket teams have refrained from visiting the Islamic majority nation and it was only last month that the country hosted three Twenty20 international match series against World XI in Lahore apart from Zimbabwe's brief visit in 2015.

Pakistan has been hosting the home matches in the United Arab Emirates for a past few years and the first two T20 matches against Sri Lanka will also be played there. The board stated, "Having been fully satisfied with the stringent security measures in place, the SLC ExCo unanimously decided to play the 3rd T20 in Lahore on the 29th October."

While making the announcement of returning to Pakistan, SLC said that decision has been made post the thorough evaluation under the Pakistan Cricket Board and independent Security experts.
