Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has made it in the Indian squad for the South Africa series but many have expressed their displeasure with his poor run with the bat. His not so great fitness form was highly criticised when he scored merely 17 runs in five innings against Sri Lanka at the home ground.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly who has been vocal about his opinions on team selection and condemned the unnecessary criticism of players has once again expressed that Ajinkya Rahane's form would not be a concern for the team in upcoming series as the player's record outside sub-continent is exemplary.

While conversing with a news agency on the sidelines of Ranji Trophy semi-final between Bengal and Delhi today, Ganguli said, "No, I don't think Ajinkya Rahane's form is a concern as he is a quality player. Virat Kohli, Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Murali Vijay have all been to South Africa. The best thing is that they are going back to South Africa as better players."

Talking about the current bowling attack of Indian cricket team, he expressed, " We will find out if this is the best bowling attack or not. They have got pace for sure. Umesh has pace, Bhuvneshwar is in good form, so let's wait."

The playing XI of the team will be decided in Cape Town on January 5 as per the conditions but many experts have suggested the selectors sending Hardik Pandya at the sixth position but Ganguly is not against the idea. He advocated, "You will not realise till you give Hardik a chance. Depends on how you want to go about it."

"Rohit Sharma did well in the two chances that he got. If it's a flat track, maybe we should have that extra fast bowler in the XI but if it's a green top, we should definitely have an extra batsman," he added.

The president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) when asked about picking an opening partner for Murali Vijay, he chose Shikhar Dhawan. "Shikhar Dhawan has been in such great form and Murali Vijay has also played well against Sri Lanka," Ganguly said.
