KL Rahul’s fighting effort of 95 runs went in vain as Rajasthan Royals kept their campaign alive in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) winning against Kings XI Punjab by 15-runs on Tuesday in Jaipur.

Opting to bat in this must-win game, Rajasthan Royals could only muster 158 for eight despite Jos Buttler's blazing 58-ball 82 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The home team, however, staged a strong fightback with the ball as it restricted Kings XI Punjab to 143 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs. With this win, Rajasthan moved into the sixth place of the IPL table.

For KXIP, Rahul was the only batsman who was putting up the fight against the RR bowling attack and his teammates crumbled.

Ish Sodhi bowled beautifully to not only take a wicket — of Akshdeep Nath — but also stymie the KXIP run rate. The New Zealand leg-spinner's turning deliveries and variations had the legendary Shane Warne applauding from the dugout.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals got off to a flying start but once again their captain Ajinkya Rahane got out rather quickly. Buttler and Sanju Samson held the fort for the team as they navigated their team through rough patches to a decent total of 158 runs.

Rajasthan Royals need to win all of their remaining matches in a hope to qualify for the playoffs.
