Mumbai Indians revived their playoff qualification hopes after winning the match against Kings XI Punjab on Thursday. Captain Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya were the standout players as they guided their team to a six-wicket win.

Mumbai's thrilling chase came after the heroics of Chris Gayle, who continued his explosive run in the IPL with a 50 off 40 balls to propel Kings XI Punjab to 174 for six. The three-time champions needed 75 runs off the last seven overs and eventually got over the line rather comfortably.

Batting first, KXIP got off to another explosive start as the destructive duo of KL Rahul and Gayle shared a 54-run stand off 40 balls.

However, when they lost the two openers, Ravichandran Ashwin’s gamble didn’t pay off as he promoted Yuvraj Singh up the order. Yuvraj is one of the best batsmen in the world when he is on the song, but has been lacklustre in the recent games. His 14 runs off 14 balls hurt the side’s momentum and he also got his partner Karun Nair runout.

If it was not for Marcus Stoinis, KXIP would have ended up way short of the expected mark. His unbeaten 15-ball 29 ensured his team reached close to 180.

However, the total was still not enough as once again Mumbai Indians rose from their losses and are currently tied on six points with Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.
