IPL Betting Verdict: Finally Honesty And Justice Prevails, Says Lalit Modi

Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi on Tuesday hailed Supreme Court-appointed high-level Committee's verdict banning Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two years. ALSO READ: IPL Spot Fixing Verdict: These Indian Players Get Short End Of Justice Lodha's Stick [caption id="attachment_67213" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Image: PTI Image: PTI[/caption] Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been banned from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for two years while CSK’s former COO and ICC President N Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan has been banned for life from cricket along with Rajasthan Royals (RR) former owner and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra for betting during IPL 6 season. This quantum of punishment was announced on Tuesday in Delhi by the Supreme Court-appointed high-level Committee headed by former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha. ALSO READ: IPL Betting Live: CSK, RR Suspended For 2 Yrs; Meiyappan, Raj Kundra Banned For Life Justice Lodha held that the betting activities of the two officials, Meiyappan, considered the face of CSK owners, and Kundra, co-owner of Rajasthan Royals, have brought the game of cricket, BCCI and IPL into disrepute. The Committee also imposed sanctions including life suspensions for Meiyappan and Kundra from being involved in any cricket matches conducted by BCCI. The Comnmitte was constituted by the Supreme Court in January this year with oits terms of reference being to announve the quantum of punioshment against Meiyappan, Kundra and the two franchisees — India Cements Ltd, owner of CSK and Jaipur IPL, owner of Rajasthan Royals. ALSO READ: ‘Prince Gurunath’ Meiyappan: From CSK’s ‘Lucky Charm’ To Lifetime Ban Meiyappan, who is the son-in-law of ICC chief N Srinivasan, has been banned for life and fined Rs 60 lakh as penalty.  Justice Lodha said that Meiyappan violated ICC anti-corruption code, cause huge loss of reputation of cricket. Meanwhile,  Rajasthan Royals part-owner (RR) Raj Kundra banned for life from cricket. Kundra is the husband of bollywood film-star, Shilpa Shetty. The Lodha committee also suspended Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals from participating in IPL for two years with effect from today.
