Indian cricket team’s star player Hardik Pandya has been an intergral part of the squad and hence, his presence in the first two matches against Sri Lanka in the upcoming test series starting from November 16 is surely missed.

The announcement by Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) of resting the all-rounder came as a shock to Indian fans who were left disappointed. However, the decision was taken on the player’s request who has played non-stop for the whole year and needed a little break.

Understanding the circumstances, the team management rested the cricketer with mutual consent. Pandya has played nearly 58 matches in the past year with his performance graph showing major improvement but the disappointed fans alleged him of not playing much cricket.

In a recent interview given by the player to a leading media channel, he clarified, “To be honest, I asked for it. My body wasn't up for it, I have some niggles because of the amount of cricket that I have played. I want to play cricket when I am totally up to it when I can give my 100 percent. I am lucky that I have got this break. I will train in the gym during this break and improve my fitness.”

Apologising to his disappointed fans, he added, “I won't lie, I am really excited about the South Africa series. I would like to use this break to improve my fitness for the series. I have played 30 ODIs, 25 T20s and 3 Tests in last one year. If they are saying I have played less cricket then I want to tell them 'I am sorry.' As an all-rounder, it's even more difficult.”

The player has been playing as the backbone of the Indian team, mainly from the Champions Trophy in June this year and has saved the team in times of need from risky situations. His great performance in the One-day International series with Australia earned him the title of Man of the Series. Although, he has been suggested to channel his energy and aggressive nature in a productive manner to go far in the career by many experts.
