BCCI Rests Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni For Nidahas Trophy, Rohit Sharma Dons The Captain's Cap

As India's victorious journey in South Africa came to an end, the team is ready for smashing runs at the forthcoming Twenty20 International tournament 'Nidahas Trophy' in Sri Lanka under the captaincy of 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma.

Board of Cricket Council of India has rested Skipper Virat Kohli and former captain MS Dhoni for the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Releasing the list of 15-member team, the board confirmed that Shikhar Dhawan will assist Sharma as the vice-captain of the Indian team.

MSK Prasad, Chairman, All-India Senior Selection Committee confirmed that MS Dhoni has himself requested for rest. He confirmed, "We’ve kept in mind the workload and upcoming schedule while finalizing the team for Nidahas Trophy."

He added, "The high-performance team has suggested that adequate rest should be given to our fast bowlers to help improve athletic performance, maximize rest and prevent injury."

With the major players still worked up after the gobsmacking series against South Africa, Rohit will be seen leading a team including many inexperienced players at the tournament. Stars pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah have also been rested.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya will also be reportedly re-energising for the Indian Premier League giving the Nidahas Tournament a miss. However, Rishabh Pant will be joining the team as the second wicketkeeper apart from Dinesh Karthik.

After proving his worth in the latest T20 against Proteas, Suresh Raina has also been included in the team along with KL Rahul, Suresh Raina and Manish Pandey. Vijay Shankar and Mohammad Siraj have also been included in the India squad.

The triangular Twenty20 International tournament is starting on March 6 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Nidahas Trophy has been organised in accordance with the 70th anniversary of Sri Lanka's independence.
