World Steel Association Announces Shortlist For 8th Steelie Awards

The World Steel Association has announced the shortlist for its 8th Steelie Awards. The Steelie Awards recognize member companies or individuals for their contribution to the steel industry over a one-year period in a series of categories impacting the steel industry. The first Steelie Awards ceremony took place in 2010 in Tokyo. The winners of the 8th Steelie awards will be revealed at the Annual Dinner of the 2017 General Assembly in Brussels on Monday, 16 October.

The awards are given in 7 categories and 4 members are shortlisted for each category. 3 Indian companies namely JSW Steel Limited, Tata Steel India and JSPL (Jindal Steel and Power Limited) have been shortlisted in different categories. The Chairman of JSPL, Naveen Jindal has been shortlisted for Industry Communicator of the Year award (which he won last year as well). The communicator of the year award recognises the individual who the media has chosen as having done the most in this year publicly to present the best face of the steel industry to the world at large.

JSW Steel Limited and Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) have been shortlisted for the Innovator of the year category. JSW Steel Limited was the winner in this category last year. While JSW has been shortlisted for the development of Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) for automotive steels and superior grade of electrical steel, JSPL has been shortlisted for the Conversion of an existing electric arc furnace to a Neo Electric oxy furnace.

Tata Steel India and JSW Steel Limited have been shortlisted in the Excellence in Life Cycle Assessment.

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. Worldsteel members represent approximately 85% of the world's steel production, including over 160 steel producers with 9 of the 10 largest steel companies, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes.
