Follow These Steps For Updating And Linking Pan Card With Aadhar Card

PAN stands for Permanent Account Number is mandatory for the filing of income tax returns (ITR) in India. It is a unique 10-character alpha-numeric number which is required to process an individual's financial transactions.

Tax department can keep tabs on all an individual's financial transactions only through PAN card and it also helps them in catching the tax evaders. As per the latest law, an individual's PAN card must be linked to his Aadhar Card by December 31 of ongoing year.

Aadhar is a 12-digit unique identity number given to an individual by the Unique Identification Authority of India. In case the details of both IDs not match, the individual has to get his details updated.

Update the PAN card details with the following steps:

1. Go to the website of NSDL and fill PAN change request form online before submitting it. The form is valid for both citizens and non-citizens of India.

2. After all the details are submitted, a token number will be generated which will further be used for future reference.

3. Once, you receive an email token number, the applicant can either send the documents physically, generate a digital signature certificate, e-sign in or log in through e-KYC.

4. The applicant will receive an email with a duly filled form and reference number. For physically forwarding the application, he must get the form printed and paste pictures and sign in the space provided before posting it to NSDL's official address, available on the website.

5. The applicant can upload the required documents for digital signature certificate including photograph and signature, after which no documents will be required to send physically.

6. Under the e-sign option, the applicant will be required to upload the scanned images of photograph, signature and the supportive documents including the Aadhar Card. No physical transfer of documents will be required then.

7. The e-KYC option, details mentioned in the Aadhar Card will be considered final for the PAN card and the same will be sent to the Income Tax Department for allotment of PAN.

8. The applicant will also be required to make a payment of Rs 110 through demand draft, credit card/debit card or net banking.
