ICICI-Videocon Loan Case: ED Summons Chanda Kochhar, Venugopal Dhoot For Questioning

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former ICICI Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Chanda Kochhar on Saturday for questioning in connection with a loan case.

The Videocon Group chief Venugopal Dhoot has also been summoned in the same case.

Hours after the Enforcement Directorate questioned former ICICI Bank chief executive Chanda Kochhar till 4 am this morning in a loan case, she was back at the probe agency's office at noon today.

She left half-an-hour later. Her husband Deepak Kochhar is still at the Enforcement Directorate's office, while Videocon managing director Venugopal Dhoot is yet to arrive, sources said.

On Friday, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had carried out searches at offices and residential premises of Chanda Kochhar her husband Deepak Kochhar and Videocon Group MD Venugopal Dhoot in connection with a bank loan fraud case.

Officials said the raids are being carried out in at least five office and residential premises in Mumbai and a few other locations.

The agency had also registered a criminal case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) earlier this month against Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar, Dhoot and others to probe alleged irregularities and corrupt practices in sanctioning of Rs 1,875-crore loans by the ICICI bank to the corporate group.

Chanda was in a sanctioning committee which approved a loan of Rs 300 crore to Videocon International Electronics Ltd (VIEL) and Rs 750 crore to Videocon Industries Ltd (VIL).
