Ever since the implementation of Goods and Services Tax in July, the taxpayers were sweating with tension due to the added burden along with zero knowledge of filing GSRT. The last date for the same as decided by the government was October 10 but many could fill the form in given time due to varied issues.

In an effort to facilitate the businesses and taxpayers who failed to file GSTR-2 and GSTR-3 in the given deadline, the government has decided to extend their last date until November 30 and December 11, respectively. Although, the last date of filing GSTR-1 (for sales tax) has passed, which was October 10.

The issue of the problems faced by taxpayers in filing GSTR-2 was raised in the ministerial panel chaired by the deputy chief minister of Bihar, Sushil Modi who later requested the GST Network (GSTN) and Infosys to organise the system according. The software major recently announced of fixing 18 of the 27 glitches already.

Sushil Modi said, "The IT services major (Infosys) told us that it would expand its 100-member team, which runs the GSTN, to fix the bugs or technical glitches in it."

Reportedly, about 12 lakh businesses have filed GSTR-2 returns so far and the GST council is not leaving any stone unturned in making the filing procedure smooth for the taxpayers. The decision to extend the deadline was welcomed by most of the taxpayers and especially those, who were unable to file GSTR earlier.
