The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday registered an FIR in the Videocon loan case against Venugopal Dhoot and NuPower Renewables founded by Deepak Kochhar.

Search operations are being carried out at several locations including Videocon offices at Nariman Point, Mumbai and Aurangabad other than Deepak Kochhar’s company NuPower Renewables Pvt Ltd (NRPL).

The FIR was lodged to examine the allegation of alleged ‘quid-pro-quo’ in the loan granted to Videocon by ICICI Bank whose former CEO and MD were Chanda Kochhar.

A shareholder had alleged that Deepak Kochhar's wife Chanda Kochhar got ICICI Bank to grant a loan of Rs 3,250 crore to Venugopal Dhoot's Videocon Group.

The shareholder alleged that in return for the loan, Venugopal Dhoot invested Rs 64 crore in Chanda Kochhar's husband's NuPower Renewables.

It was not confirmed whether Chanda Kochhar was named in the FIR or not but sources say that she was definitely under the scanner during the PE, in which Deepak Kochhar and Dhoot were named.

Chanda Kochhar was the MD and CEO of the ICICI Bank when this loan was granted. She stepped down as the chief executive officer and managing director of the ICICI Bank due to the allegations against her in October last year.

The CBI was already probing the ICICI-Videocon loan case. Last year, the agency had registered a PE, or preliminary enquiry, in the case.
