August 28 marks the three-year completion of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's much aspiring "Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana". The scheme aimed at promoting financial inclusion, has benefitted at least 30 crore families.

Jan Dhan was one of the initial schemes launched by PM Modi after forming Government in May 2014. The scheme was launched to ensure access to financial services for the common man.

In his radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi said that the campaign was launched three years back "with a dream in our (their) hearts".

Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley in a Facebook post said that the scheme has led to a social revolution that will eventually bring all Indians into a common financial, economic and digital space.

"Just as GST created one tax, one market, one India, the PMJDY and the JAM (Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and Mobile) revolution can link all Indians into one common financial, economic, and digital space. No Indian will be outside the mainstream, " Jaitley said.

Jan Dhan Yojana offers substantial benefits for government, the economy and especially the poor. It allows the poor to access to financial services and reduces subsidy burden.
