Yamaha Motors Recalls 23,897 Units Of FZ 25, Fazer 25 Bikes From India

Mumbai, January 6: Two-wheeler manufacturer India Yamaha Motors on Saturday voluntary recalled 23,897 units of its FZ 25 and Fazer 25 motorcycles. The company is recalling 23,897 units From Indian Market to rectify issue related to head cover bolt loosening.

" This voluntary recall is being undertaken to address an issue related to head cover bolt loosening in 23,897 motorcycles (21,640 units of FZ25 and 2,257 units of Fazer 25) manufactured from January 2017," the company said in a statement. 

The recall, with immediate effect, will cover units of the two models manufactured from January 2017, the company said.

"The affected motorcycles will be repaired free of cost at any of the Yamaha authorized dealers and the owners will be contacted individually. Yamaha is working closely with the dealer partners to ensure the repair experience is as convenient and efficient as possible," it said.

Earlier last year, Japan's Yamaha Motor pumped in Rs 800 crore into its Indian business for setting up a manufacturing facility, services and marketing of its motorcycles in the country.

Tsutomu Mabuchi, chief executive officer and managing director, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd said,"This is our goal, our target, our dream. We aim to have a 10% market share by 2010 and will break even before that."

Yamaha's current market share is 2.5% although in the premium category is commands a 20% market share, which seems to be getting boosted by its recent launch- YZR15.

It is launching another bike FZ16 next week, which will be priced around Rs65,000 and two more products are lined up for this year.

"We are focusing on establishing a good dealer network which will help with a deeper mass penetration also. We are replacing loss-making dealers with new ones and from the current 300, the target is to have 450 dealers nationwide as well as 1,500 other Yamaha points," said Pankaj Dubey, national business head, and division head sales and marketing. The performance of the Yamaha India has been disappointing with the business reporting losses and the Japanese partner company has to come to its rescue.
