Know All About The Newly Launched Jeep 'Compass'

American Automobile company, Jeep, on Monday, launched its much-awaited entry level SUV 'Compass' in India.

Compass is the most affordable SUV model of Jeep in India. Made locally in India at its Jeep's Ranjangaon based facility near Pune, the vehicle costs between Rs 14.95 lakh to Rs 20.65 lakh in ex-showroom prices.

The MD of Jeep India, Kevin Flynn believes that this model will generate a lot of volumes for the company in India. After the launch of the vehicle, the official twitter page of Jeep India announced the price of Compass tweeting, " That moment you all have been waiting for is finally here. Here’s the official price of the incredible Jeep® Compass. #LeadTheWay."

The 'Jeep Compass' will be available in five models– Compass Sports, Compass Longitude, Compass Limited as well as top model Longitude(O), Limited (O). The customers can also choose from five different colours Minimal Grey, Exotica Red, Hydro Blue, Vocal White and Hip Hop Black.

The Jeep SUV comes with a unique Driveline Disconnect Technology (DDT) which automatically disconnects the drive from the rear wheels when not required, saving fuel saving and providing safer driving.

As for specifications, the Jeep Compass will come in two power train options- a 1.4-ltr petrol 4-cylinder Multiair engine and a 2.0-ltr diesel engine. The 1.4ltr produces 160 bhp with peak torque of 250 Nm while the diesel produces 173 bhp and 230 Nm torque.

The engine will be paired with 6- speed manual transmission and all disc brakes. It will also come along with an optional 7-speed automatic gearbox version but only for the petrol variant.

In the interiors, the Jeep has a touch screen 7.0-inch Uconnect infotainment system which is also integrated with voice command. It also has 60-40 split rear seat, height adjustment for the driver's seat and console net.

As for safety, the vehicle had 6 airbags, all-speed, electric parking brake, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, traction control system and an electronic roll mitigation along with a hill start assists.

The parent company of Jeep, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has invested around Rs 1800 crore for producing the vehicle within India. While the production here is mainly to serve the Indian buyers, the company is also looking to export the vehicle to all the other right-side drive countries.

The Jeep model is expected to compete with Tata's Hexa and Hyundai's Tucson in the market.
